Day 1 of the G20 Country Sessions at SIDSSA 2025 brought together international leaders to discuss how hosting RSA hosting the G20 has influenced our national infrastructure priorities and attracted investments in not only South Africa but Africa.

South Africa’s representation at the G20 sessions showcased the continent as a leading voice among developing nations, exemplifying Africa’s growing global influence.

On May 26, 2025, the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA) hosted a series of G20 Country Sessions, providing a platform for member nations to share insights on infrastructure development strategies shaped by their experiences with the G20.

Session 1: People’s Republic of China – Digital Infrastructure

China’s session, titled “Digital Infrastructure: Driving Innovation and Interconnectivity for an Inclusive World,” highlighted the country’s advancements in digital infrastructure and its role in fostering global connectivity and inclusive growth.

Session 2: United Kingdom – Strengthening Financial Systems

The United Kingdom focused on “Strengthening Financial Systems: Fiscal Policy that Supports Infrastructure Investment,” emphasizing the importance of sound fiscal strategies in mobilizing sustainable infrastructure development.

Session 3: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Industrialization and Infrastructure

Saudi Arabia led a pivotal discussion on “Building a Resilient and Long-Lasting Economic Recovery: Driving Industrialization for Infrastructure Development,” exploring how industrial growth can be a catalyst for robust infrastructure.

Session 4: Brazil – Investing in Social Infrastructure

Brazil’s session, “Building Resilient Communities: Investing in Social Infrastructure,” underscored the role of inclusive, people-centered infrastructure in strengthening societal resilience and promoting equitable development.

These sessions provided valuable perspectives on aligning national infrastructure agendas with global economic frameworks, demonstrating the diverse approaches G20 countries are taking to address infrastructure challenges and opportunities.
