H.E. President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Lead National Dialogue on Strategic Infrastructure Investment
The 2025 Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium of South Africa (SIDSSA) unfolded this past week as a pivotal platform for reshaping the future of infrastructure delivery in the country. Hosted by the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, the symposium brought together key public and private sector stakeholders, multilateral partners, and thought leaders to advance South Africa’s infrastructure-led growth agenda.
President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered a keynote address that underscored the critical role infrastructure plays in unlocking inclusive economic development and long-term sustainability. “Infrastructure is the flywheel of economic progress,” the President stated, as he reaffirmed government’s commitment to fast-tracking strategic projects and removing systemic bottlenecks.
The symposium showcased the evolving pipeline of Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs), many of which are geared towards energy, transport, and social infrastructure. The President highlighted the central role of collaboration and investment, inviting the private sector to play an active role in South Africa’s infrastructure transformation.
In his opening remarks, the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure emphasized the importance of SIDSSA as a results-driven platform, noting how it has evolved from a convening mechanism into a space for accountability, implementation, and delivery. “We are not just breaking ground; we are building a new foundation for service delivery and economic reform,” the Minister said.
SIDSSA 2025 also served as a platform for reviewing progress on catalytic projects announced in previous years, introducing new initiatives, and engaging in thematic dialogues on sustainable infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and local economic development.
The event was not only a convening of stakeholders, but a bold reaffirmation of the country’s infrastructure ambitions — with a clear message that execution, accountability, and impact remain at the core.
